Why Heat Exchangers Don’t Require As Much Maintenance

Heat exchangers provide a wide variety of benefit, especially for industries that rely on efficient thermal management for large-scale automated equipment and high-performance technology. One of the most significant benefits is the ability to consistently cool electrical equipment while minimizing the amount of energy companies consume, which helps them lower their environmental footprint as well as save money. Another significant benefit, however, is the significantly reduced amount of time and resources that companies must spend maintaining heat exchanger technology, especially when compared to more traditional air conditioning and air compressing equipment.

Fewer Moving Parts

Electrical components give off waste heat as they operate, and air conditioners and air compressors go through a lot of effort to make sure that electrical enclosures don’t overheat from it. The effort is worth it, with the advent of heat exchangers, it is often unnecessary. Rather than chilling or compressing air and then pumping into an enclosure, heat exchangers transfer electrical waste heat as it comes, preventing it from collecting into heat pockets. This requires minimal moving parts, such as an external fan, or none at all, depending on the type of heat exchanger.

Consistent Cooling Fluid

Air conditioners use Freon to create the chilled air that cools an enclosure. The fluid is not only hazardous, but also needs to be constantly refilled for the air conditioner to continue working properly. By contrast, the cooling fluid used in most heat exchangers is safer (usually water) and is cycled as it absorbs and releases heat so that it does not need to be replaced. With no or few moving parts and no need to change out the cooling fluid, heat exchangers eliminate the majority of maintenance issues that can plague older thermal management solutions.
