The Evolution of Electrical Thermal Management

Efficiency and productivity have always been a focal point of technology, and as it has advanced throughout the decades, the means for managing electrical waste heat have evolved to keep up. At Noren, innovative thermal management has been our specialty for over 40 years, and we continue to exceed our clients’ expectations by creating solutions to meet every application. As the demand for more efficient and ecofriendly technology has grown, our expertise has helped lead the way in meeting those demands.

Air-Conditioners

When electrical equipment first became an integral part of manufacturing, it often needed to be refrigerated well below room temperature in order to prevent overheating. This made air-conditioners a necessary addition to manufacturing technology, though they became less necessary as electrical equipment evolved to withstand higher operating temperatures.

Compressed Air Coolers

Compressed air coolers are smaller than air conditioners and gained popularity as an effective space-saving solution. The coolers utilize ambient air to create a vortex that eliminates heat within an electrical enclosure. Though smaller and more convenient, compressed air coolers are still relatively costly to operate, due particularly to the high costs of maintaining a supply of compressed air.

Heat Exchangers

Heat exchangers are the most recent thermal management innovation and combine the space-saving benefits of compressed air units with highly efficient methods of transferring waste heat. Rather than cooling the air inside of electrical enclosures, heat exchangers continuously redirect the waste heat that electrical circuits give off, cooling the air and recirculating it in a closed loop or dissipating the heat away from the circuits in an open loop.
